I-485 question, please help

Hi All -
I wonder if anybody knows what happens when a alien who has pending I-485 in US, moves overseas for extended period of time. I have filed my 485 sometime in 2004 and left US in 2005. However I do have a valid H1B to return to the US. What could be the possible outcome of my case? I did receive a query last year regarding my legal presence and I had to come to US and provide INS a copy of my I-94 after which nothing happened besides a update on my case status. Any thoughts would be sincerely appreciated.

Cheers,

The whole greencard process is really for a future job, so as long as your ex employer in US is willing to continue the process, and your lawyer is deligent in filing and replying to INS queries, you should still get thru.

The only question is whether 485 is appropriate, or do you need to go to Consular processing route (since the purpose of CP is really for someone to enter US on GC).

I believe it is also possible to switch from "adjustment of status" to "consular processing" if you wish, but check with your attorney on the details.
