Do I need to apply EAD along with my I-1485 even though I still have valid H1B (7/22/2006) ?

You don't have to, since you have a valid H1.

If your 485 does n't get approved by end of this year, then
you should apply both for EAD and H1 extension.
 
You are pretty safe right now. I never appllied EAD through my whole application and got I-485 approval in the 8th year of H1-B. The only thing you need to take care is applying the H1-B extension every year but let you have 6 month duration before it's expired. Good luck to you.
