Hello, all. Currently my family based I-485 has been pending for half year since interviewed in Oct 05 due to fbi name check.... cry... I got a job in another state, starting in June. My husband may go with me. But I heard if I change address to another state, my file will be transfered and they will re-interview and all the stuff... So I was thinking if I can apply a P.O. Box in my current state and then change my 485 address to my this P.O.Box. At least, they won't transfer my files to another state. Is it a good idea or I have to give resident address to USCIS? Thank you for any advises!

just forward your mail in usps

Forward your mail by USPS to your new address. Do it once a year.

I think USCIS does not allow USPS to transfer your mail. They stamp something "do not forward" on the mail so USPS won't forward.

Correcto. That is the same respond that months ago USPS customer service told me and when I called the USCIS was the same answer. They don't forward the mail. And in any case you must report your change of address. Check the part "change of address" at the uscis website.

Good luck,

USCIS wants to know where you are physically located at, since they don't even process a lot of the AR-11's unless they "need" to find you I would say their least concern is making sure you get mail from them. So I doubt a PO Box would work.

However, the bigger issue should be the 6 month wait for a name check. Court decisions have made it public that a name check only takes a few minutes and the FBI check takes about 48 hours. Look into filing suit against USCIS, I bet once your lawyer prepares the Writ and lets them know about it, your case will be approved in days.

Changing address with USCIS is not always the best thing to do and I have read several post both here and in order forums that I visit that because you change your address with the customer services on the telephone or write them does not grantee it will be change on their system.

I read of a guy who change is address and got several letters from USCIS at the new address but the one that was uesd to call him for interview was sent to the old address. I also have a friend who applied for LULAC in TX and later move from TX to MA and was getting all his correspondence at MA but when he withdrawl his application last year the letter of acknowlegement was sent to his old address in TX and thank God that it was his sisters house.

I'll suggest you get the result before you move

wishing all the best
