I-485 pending and maintaining H1B status in parallel

My I-140 got approved during aug2003, and I-485 is pending which is applied concurrently during April2003 and have EAD AND AP in place.I am on H1B and current h1b will expire by end of Oct2004 and H1-B 6 year limit wil reach by Mar2005. Inorder to main H1B status in parallel,Do I need to apply for H1B extension first before Oct2003 and then 7 th year extension before March2005.

How this h1b things will work out. Experts comments will be really appreciated.Thanks

I'm certanly not an expert, but I'll toss in my two cents.

The H1 is valid for 6 years (3 years subject to another 3 year extension). Since you have a pending I485 you can continue to have your H1 extended for 1 year increments as long as your case is being adjudicated.

Your company will have to get involved since an H1 is employer sponsored. In your case the 7th year extension is not required since you can renew your H1 until March 2005 (6 year). Before March 2005 (maybe 4-5 months in advance) you may wish to file for a 7th year extension if your I485 application is still pending. Confer with your employer.
