I-485 issues, change of employer without EAD

I filed my i-485 in july 2001 at NSC with Employer A and my RD is 07/24/01 , ND is 08/21/01. But I have not applied for EAD. Now I am about to laid-off and my 485 is not approved. It looks like my 485 approval may take couple of months. As per AC21, I may change employer. Any ideas that I have to have EAD to change employer. If so, if I apply EAD now at local INS, how long it takes!

Same situation as mine, except that 6 months are not over yet in my case.

I went to the local INS office with the reciepts issued by INS for my I-485 and EAD applications.

The waiting time was long, but I got the EAD the same day. The process was smooth and I also managed to get information regarding I-485 application.

Finding a job in this economy will be a bigger problem.

Good luck.

First of all, your approval is very near, and in case you get an RFE, be preapred to have an employment letter ready either from the current or the new employer.

Secondly, do you have a valid H-1 and time left on that which you can use for the new job? This will help you in case the EAD is delayed. Even if you have H-1, try to get an EAD to be safe. Many companies do not want to sponsor anymore, and with EAD, you will be able to save some efforts to get the job.

Yes, getting EAD would be wise as it will help you in job search. Many companies out there don't want to sponsor H1's.
