Hello Forum! :) :) :)

I have been advised that I-485 status check should be only via on line. I have also been advised that I should not attempt to call to speak with anyone about the case as this may adversely affect the processing of the case.

  1. Can any members comment?
  2. What are the pros/cons?

Thank you!

Good advice by your advisor.

The status check attempt should be done online only. If you talk to USCIS and simply ask about your status, they will tell you to check online. If you want to know more than the status check, you have 2 options:

1) If you want the Green Card at USCIS pace, do not worry about GC and do your job as usual.

2) If you want the Green Card at your pace, attempt to do whatever is possible without overdoing it. Do all the things at a measured pace.

well said sb_gc...

I wonder who was the advisor? Even after pinging, pricking, the USCIS don't get their act together. It would be years before the bureacratic jungle gives an approval without any effort from candidate's part.

Well said sb_gc.

indeed.you can do the following after 25-30 days...you can also involve your spouse in this..

1. Call USCIS and talk to rep. ( you can talk about FP status, FBI name check, case separation, or you can open a query )
2. Keep writing mail to FBI ( every month ) and FAX them
3. Keep calling congressman in between...
4. Make sure any two consecutive activity has gaps ( 20 + days )
5. If at all you have been asked to wait n days..do call up after n+1 day..

Or wait like a fool to know that your have to do all this to get approval if your case is delayed :)

PS -- make sure you don't get arrested :D

My opinion is that if you have G mein D (if you have guts, without fear of being arrested ), you should do whatever Rockville has mentioned, otherwise, for the fear of being arrested, as Rockville has mentioned as PS, sit like a coward, wait for USCIS for give you GC !!
