Friends,

I have completed I-130 and I-485 packets for concurent filing for my wife. I had last question if you can help.

- Do both these packets I-130 and I-485 (along with sealed envelope, I-864) need to be filed at Chicago Lockbox? I got confused because they seem to be suggesting different addresses in the form filling guidelines.

Thanks

Why Chicago LockBox specifically?

Hi, I am also planning to file I-130 and I-485 concurrently and I too have seen so many different suggestions of where to send application. I was looking at this guide book and it specifically said "If filing i-130 and i-485 concurrently, send the application to your local USCIS office where you reside". I have seen quite a number of suggestions from this forum to send to Chicago lockbox. Is there a specific reason for this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi:

I don't know......maybe it's in the INSTRUCTIONS somewhere!

Thank you all for the reply.
I did read the front page on the I-485. What's confusing to me is this:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you live in one of these states or territories, please read this notice to determine your filing location:
ALASKA,CALIFORNIA, IDAHO, IOWA, KANSAS, MARYLAND, MISSOURI, MONTANA, NEBRASKA, NEW MEXICO,OKLAHOMA, OREGON, TEXAS, AND WASHINGTON.
AS PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED AND REMAINS IN EFFECT - EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 1, 2004 DIRECT MAIL INSTRUCTIONS FOR PERSONS FILING FORM I-485
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
And then there is the rest of the states in which does direct you to send your application to the Chicago Lockbox.

I reside in California. Is it any different then?
Thanks.

If you read it carefully, you will notice that it directs everyone in all states to submit the form to Chicago.

I know the way it is written is not clear, but everyone needs to send the form to Chicago.

No, you're just misreading the notice. The reason is that California and the rest of the states listed on that upper line moved to having to use the Chicago Lockbox in April 2005, whereas the states in the lower box did so in December 2004. As its now April 2007, people in all states file to Chicago lockbox.

It would be nice if they just updated the damn forms, but for this is spelled out very clearly on USCIS website.
