I-485 from company1 in progress while labor from company2 in progress

I'm caught in the following situation..

# My current employer has filed for GC labor (waiting for federal approval in Texas center) and I'm on 8th year H1B extension

# Mean time I got a pre-approved labor from other company to be on the safer side and filed for GC. I-140 was approved on April of this year and I-485 seems to be stuck because of this (Not sure... waiting on INS response on this).
GC is based on future employment here.

Mean time my 8th year extension is expiring this July. I'm not sure whether I should let my current employer know that I have EAD from other company and not file for 9th extension to avoid further confusion.. or should file for 9th year to be on the safer side, in case I-485 gets into complications.

Is it normal to file for 2 GC's in parallel from 2 different companies??

Thanks for all your input in advance :)
