I-485/ead, A Real Mess

I applied for my EAD in July. I received a notice in September stating that "My EAD is approved, but the EAD card can\'t be issued because my permanent Residency is also approved". When I called INS to check if my permanent residency (I-485) is approved, the INS officer told me that my I-485 is not approved, it is a mistake to send such a notice. I called INS at least 4 times requesting them to send my EAD because my H1 was expiring, but they never sent my EAD. I even tried in the Local INS office to issue me a interim EAD. They told me that they can\'t issue interim EAD, because my EAD is approved. Finally my employer had to apply for a new H1 (1 year extension, since I crossed 6 year stay) to keep me in status. My current employer is cutting my salaries, benefits etc. and forcing me sign contracts for longer terms using the economy downturn and my helpless situation to his advantage. I have other employment offers, but I am not able to take them, because I don\'t have an EAD or Green card. I filed for my I-485 in Sep-99 and did my second finger prints on Nov-01. I have the following questions
1. Is there anyway to make INS issue my EAD or approve my I-485 sooner(By the processing dates published by the Texas center, I should have my I-485 processed by now)

2.Would I be able to change my employer with a new H1 even if I crossed 6 years on H1

I will appreciate your responce

Thanks
-Ram

EAD

If you have passed the 90 days period of EAD application and have not received any corrspondence or whatever mistake of INS, you can go to your local INS district office and they will issue you the EAD right the same day. On fetching EAD, you can change the job at your will till it expires.

I did the same thing couple of days back and have now changed the jobs.
