Hi Folks,

I am getting ready to file my I-485 and I have a question about my birth certificate. I got my birth certificate from India in 2005 and it mentions the registration date as 2005. It says that the records are obtained from the original municipal records etc.

Will this late registration create a problem? My lawyer told me that as long as the document contains all the relevant information, the registration date should not matter. Will I surely get an RFE for this? Has anyone had any experience regarding this?

Thanks.

You shd be fine. Late registration shdn't matter as long as all relevant information like full name, dob, place of birth, both parents name are clearly stated. I have replied to your PM. Good Luck.

Birth Certificate

There are some recent cases from NSC with late registration of birth receiving RFEs to provide more evidence... RFE is about giving USICS "oldest" and "acceptable" form of evidence showing similar details as birth certificate. These evidence (AKA secondary evidence) includes 10th certificate, medical records, affidavits etc. So, late registration could be Ok (mine is late too) but dont be too surprised if you get an RFE (I also included affidavits from parents). Good luck!
