I-485 approved while beneficiary is abroad

Here is a question that, while still theoretical for me, may become very much practical for some of us.

Let's say there is an individual that has a valid H1B, I-140 is approved and I-485 filed about 4-5 month ago. The individual also has an AP and EAD, and is still employed by the sponsoring employer in the position specified in I-140.

Now, this individual is about to go abroad for a two weeks long trip.

The question is, what happens if the I-485 gets approved while the individual in question is abroad?
What should said individual do to return safely to the US while not harming the newly obtained status?

Any insights/experience/legal references are greatly appreciated.

the stituation you describing is not so complicated. 1. if you have AP you may travel without violating you adjustment status. 2. you can either advise the immigration officer at the port of entry that your case is approved thus you are a resident and not a parolee (you become a permanent resident when your I-485 is approved and not when you receive the actual card) 3. Maybe, if you recieved the card while abroad you can have a familty member fedex it to you and come back with it like a king. Good luck.

Thanks a lot, this is largely what I suspected, but I hoped that someone who had such an experience would share it here.
I feel uneasy traveling with AP, so having a valid H1B I'd much rather us it, keeping AP "in a sleeve" just in case something goes wrong with the visa.
