I-485 Approval Notice

How important of I-485 approval notice? My case was approved several months ago, but I never received approval notice. I got temp green card recently without the approval notice. Should I get a duplicated copy of my 485 approval notice?
 
I have a question for you. Without receiving the Approval Notice for I-485, how did you go for your passport stamping to USCIS office? Or, the stamping is not required for receiving the GC?

I scheduled a info pass appointment and told them to check my case status, while they found my case was approved long time ago, they just stamp ed temp green card on my passport.

Thats odd, I never heard anything about passports getting stamped.
They just told me I'd get the green card once I sent in the final paperwork they needed after the interview.
