I-485 and marrige question, please help!!!!!

Hi,

I filed my I-485 and my reciept date is 7/26/01.
I am planning to go to India and get married in November.
My question is what will happen to my wife's application?
Do I have enough time to go to India and get married and come back asap and file her application also? I do not know what to do.
Last time I checked, the Nebraska's date has shifted from
7/13 to 1/26
right now they seem to be processing 4/1/02.

What kind of risks am I taking by trying to get married so late in my filing status.

Please help me

Don't go by the dates published by INS. Check rupnet.com - INS is now approving mid-Aug 01 RDs. Your I-485 should be approved any time soon, if there's no RFE.

You cannot add your wife to your I-485 if your marriage date is after approval date. You would have to take the longer route to get her green card thru the FB process.

Thanks for your replay. When I check my case status on the INS web site, it just says that "A notice for Fingerprinting was sent to you".

My notice for fingerprinting came in March 2002, however, I went for fingerprinting in May 2002.

Will the web site be updated to indicate that my finger prints have been processed? Can I use that as a timeframe to get married, i.e. as long as the finger printing status is not updated, I can add my wife's name to my 485.

Again, that doesn't mean anything. My finger printing was done few months ago, and AVM has not been updated to even "A finger print notice was issued......."

Just go by an overall timeframe of 12 months from the ND for approval - that is if there's no RFE or if your file has not fallen into a shredder by mistake (or by design!) :)
