If I I am laid off or I quit my job after I file I-140 or I-485, can I still transfer to non-immigration status which does not allow immigration intention, like F-1, B-2? One lawyer says I can not, as I expressed my immigration intention by filing I-140. Another lawyer says I can transfer to any status, as long as I have maintained legal status. This is confusing. My job is not stable and my company is filing green card application for me. I really need to think about backup options. Your response would be greatly appreciated!
