I-20 with AOS

HI,
I applied AOS (F2A) in December 2012. Just got the finger print done on Jan. 10.
The i-485 is now at the scheduling stage.
My question is, I am here with a student visa and I just gave birth to a baby and I really want to stay at home to take care of my baby instead of taking classes and hire a baby sitter.
My doctors won't give me an excuse note because they think i'm not in any sort of medical condition.
If I don't show up at school and register for 12 hours, will this affect my AOS?
If I don't show up, am I still in legal status?

As AOS is pending you can stay in US.As far as reporting to school you need to check with them may be ask for more time.
