I-20 or EAD

I just applied for AOS and EAD with my spouse who has an H1B.
I got admitted into Univ Of Mich for 2004 Spring semester. Classes start Jan. I have got a Teaching assistantship.
In case my EAD does not arrive before January when the classes start - what options do I have?
Can I change to F1 later (should I ask for an I-20 from the Univ right now?)
They haven't given me one since I do not need one...
 
Thanks - BTW...

I was wondering if my EAD takes longer - say it comes thru' in Feb. Then what happens to the TA - do I loose it???

Yes it should have been lose and not loose as in wobbly. Thanks for catching that.
