I have applied for my OPT and was expecting to receive it next month. However, the Vermont service center notified me that they have sent me a notice requesting more information/evidence which I have yet to receive. My I-20 expires at the end of June and I have been told that it is highly unlikely that my OPT will be approved by then. My questions are as follows.
1. Will I be out of status if my I-20 expired before my OPT is approved? and if not for how long will I be in status?
2. Does anyone have any prior experience in what kind of information/evidence does the INS need in addition to that supplied while filing the I-765 (c iii i) application?
3. Once I provide the additional information will it again take 60-90 days for the OPT i.e. do I drop back to the end of the line?
4. Would it be better to apply for the H-1 (fast track) directly w/o waiting for the OPT?
5. NOT just Morbid curiosity - do you know of anyone who has had their OPT refused by the INS and what does one do next?
