Hi all,

I am starting this thread to get together people who's I 140 has just been approved and are in the process of getting ready for their next big step - CP interview. I have opted for CP interview at Chennai.

I got my I 140 approved last week. I am starting to collect documents based on what my lawyers have sent me and what I have been reading here.

If anyone is in a similar situation, please join this thread to share your experience, ideas, suggestions etc with others.

Here are some links given by kd1403 which I feel will be good starting points

Thanks, kd1403. Thanks for the link. One other thing I need to get started is my immunization records. I got the Hepatitis B vaccine when I was in India but dont have documentation for it except for a small card that has the dates on it written down by the person who gave me the shots.

I am thinking of calling my doctor here and asking. Maybe I can take a blood test and get a statement that says I indeed have taken the vaccine.. Any thoughts or suggestions on this??

Btw, what stage of the game, I mean the whole GC process are you in?? Just curious...

thanks,
dilbert

Dont worry a lot about vaccination records since if you dont have you can re-take the vaccines as many of us have done. There are no side effects and to the best of my knowledge vaccines include tetanus, MMR, and chicken pox (if you have not had chicken pox disease in life). It is extremely rare to get a vaccine for hepatitis.
So bottom line is if you have the records carry them, else dont stress out as there is no way to avoid medicals for cp even with all possible vaccine records.

Having said this I had my CP interview Oct 03 and got my GC on re-entry into usa in Dec 03.

Hi kd1403,

Thanks for the tip. I am not bypassing the medicals by any chance here. I took the Hepatitis B vaccine about 4 years ago and dont have documentation for it. Clinics/ Hospitals here wont give you documentation unless they have administered the vaccine. So, I contacted the county health dept and they said I could take it once again if I needed documentation. The other option is to have my doctor write a letter for a blood test to check and then maybe give me the documentation. I am going for the latter option next week. Let me see how that goes..

Question on PCC application

Hi,

I am planning to send my application for PCC to the Indian Consulate at SF. In the Personal particulars Proforma form, I find (in the webpage)

Personal particulars Proforma with 3 copies and 3 photographs

Does this mean I will be sending 4 copies Personal Particulars proforma form totally and paste one photo/ copy?

Ca

Also, if I send the $15 for mailing back along with the photocopy of my PP, will it be linked to my original PP when I send the original after 5-6 weeks?? Should I mention anything specific anywhere for this to be done?

n kd1403 or any other expert please clarify?

Thanks,
Dilbert

Not sure what you mean by 3 copies coz i am looking at a PCC application form and do not see anything around 3 copies.
In my case when i had applied for PCC about 6-9 months back, I had simple filled out the MISCELLANEOUS form for PCC with details and photograph & included fees for processing and return mailing, 1 copy of relevant passport pages.

On approval I had mailed my original passport and they returned it with pcc stamp in passport and pcc letter since i had already paid the mailing $15 fee when i had submitted the application.

What i am not sure about is the 3 copies...not sure what form you are looking at? Can you email the link so that i can see the PCC application form you are viewing!

Hi kd1403,

Here is the link -

http://www.indianconsulate-sf.org/

Click on Passposrt/ Visa/ Consular services on the left panel, then click on Police Clearance certificate in the page that opens. It takes you the PCC question/ answer section directly.

Here is the part that I am refering to:

What is the procedure to apply for PCC if passport was issued from any other Passport office/ Indian Mission?

i) Miscellaneous services form

ii) Original passport. Since it takes 30-35 days for the issue of PCC, you may submit the photocopy of the passport at the time of applying and present the original at the time of issue of the PCC as it will have to be stamped.

iii) Personal particulars Proforma with 3 copies and 3 photographs

iv) Fees of $ 20

v) Mail back charges (preferably $15 for return by overnight mail which is more reliable and safe. Consulate can not take responsibility for delay in receipt or loss of documents sent by certified mail. No self addressed envelope necessary. Fees for PCC + mailing charges can be sent together through a single money order or cashier’s check. Please note that payments by mail can only be made through money order or cashier's check in favor of the Consulate General of India.

{The money sent in stays connected to the case. Once
they receive your application they open a docket and the
fact that you sent in money for return courier is noted
there. In your cover letter just mention that you have
enclosed this amount .

When you send it the original for stamping then again
mention that the courier charges have been paid earlier}

Question on PCC application/ help needed ASAP

Hi,

I need a clarification ASAP on the application form for PCCC.

There is the "Personal Particulars Performa" form,

Question # 12 asks : "Exact date from which applicant has been residing abroad.

Is this a question pertaining to loast passport or PCC part?

if it pertains to pcc, would it be the first date of entry into the US?

Can someone please clarify as I plan to send the application by this afternoon?

Thank you very much,
Dilbert

The day you started your long term stay in US.

If you stayed in US for 2 yrs from 95-97 and back home after, then 2001-present. Then 2001. Just an example.

My 2c - U're applying too early for PCC. (Unless your lawyer wants to see PCC before sending in P3. and If it's a personal lawyer, you can talk her/him into understanding the situation).

PCC clarification

alren,

Thanks for the clarification. I think you are alluding to the validity of the PCC. I read on this forum somewhere that the PCC would be valid for 180 days from issuance. I could not find any information related to that in the Indian Consulate, SF website. Is the period of validity mentioned in some place else ie in some other website? I am assuming the PCC is a stamp on the PP + a letter (?). Can you please point me to that?

I am confused since the PCC is for an individual's stay in India. Suppose a person left India 4 years ago and has lived in India from 1970 to 2000, no matter when the PCC is isssued, it will be for the duration of the stay 1970 - 2000. Is my understanding right? Am I missing something? Can someone please help?

Thanks,
Dilbert

Thanks,

I cannot find the detail, but the general assumption is taht the US consulate in Mumbai (I assume the same is good for Chennai) wants the PCC issued less then 6 months ago.

Some people have emailed the consulate and they have responded back with 6mos and some got 1yr. But if it is not hurting might want to stay within 6 mo. time frame.

The Consulate/Indian Govt. would care less.
The PCC is a stamp + a letter.

kd, raju - Is there a validation of this 6 mo. thingy? I looked at the us consulate site, immihelp, sample appt. letter, NVC etc. no clear reference out there.

Send photocopies of your passport plus visa approval/ visa stamp!

Alren:

None of the consulate web sites state the 6 month validity rule for Indian PCC's! The only way to know is via email!
