I-140 filing

I am presently working for company X on H1-B and I have approved Labor through company Y. Can I continue to stay with Company X and file for I-140 through Company Y?

When is it mandatory that I leave Company X and join Company Y in GC stage? Do I have to join Company Y, before I file I-485?

GC is for future employment, Its not mandatory under law to join the company till you recieve the GC. But after recieving the GC you ideally should spend one year with that company thorugh which you got your GC, unless you change employment under AC21.

But one question might arise is after you file your I-485 you are eligible for a EAD, USCIS may question why you didnt use that EAD to start working with the employer.
