I-140 CP; Case assigned; How long it takes from here ?

Nov 28: IIO said they requested I140 from storage
Dec 12; Calling up NVC my I140 case is in Consulate
Jan 25: IIO says 485-case is assigned to an officer on Jan 16
        Also IIO says they don\'t have the I-140 yet.

Any idea how long it usually takes for I-485 approval after it is assigned to an officer when I-140 papers are still sitting in a Consualte ?

Did you call consulate to know if INS requested for your I-140

I called last friday to the consulate in my country. They told me that INS has not requested for the file yet.
My ND 03/13/01.
Sometimes they don\'t need the file sometimes they do.
 
Answer to GR1966

I calledon 31st December 01. Till that time it wasn\'t. After that I haven\'t called yet. I might call them 1st week of February.
 
I called IIO.. on Friday the 25th

It was first time i called.... and had a very nice talk with a very nice customer service rep at VSC.

As per her, my file is under review right now (meaning assigned to officer) and FPs were in place. She asked my I-140 number, and tried to look for it in their database. Nope - it didn\'t figure anywhere, as my bloody (sorry for the language) lawyer applied I140 at Nebraska! and that VSC database can\'t dig in to LIN cases.

She said, some officers might look for140 file and some might not! so her "personal opinion is" in two weeks to 2 months i might get any time :)

Then I demanded I-140 receipt from attorney (usually these arrogant coprorate attorneys won\'t give all damn papers so easily(- and another shock that it was approved for CP!!!

I talked to NVC and they said my file (I suppose I140) is sent on second week of Jan 2001 they had sent the file to US consulate, Madras, India.

Apart from making my company fire law firm - I don\'t know what else i could do :(

140 case was still in consulate as of 2 weeks ago

Last time I checked with consulate on Jan 15, my I-140 papers were still in consulate. My guess is it is still there. but when I spoke with IIO on Jan 25, I was told my case was assigned to an officer on Jan 16.

Earlier when I spoke with IIO in November, I was told that I-140 had been requested from storage on Nov 15 . but the IIO did not mention anything that my I-485 case was assigned to officer.

So my question is - Does the INS assign I-485 case to an officer only after determining whether or not the I-140 CP papers are required ?

When you talked in Nov, they said that file was requested from storage (?) on Nov 15th. but when you called consulte they said that the file was still there. I think INS has its copy and they try to get it from their storage. It is INS who approved the I140 so they should have it.
I am going to call them and for more clarification. Let see if those half educated IIOs can explain a bit more.
 
485 Approved ! ND=Feb; 140 (CP); AD = Feb 8

My case got approved at last !

State = NJ
PD = March 97 (Yes, it has been 5 long years almost!)
ND = Feb 01
I-140 CP sent to consulate Dec 00
Nov 15 = I-140 CP, requested from storage
Jan 16 = I-485 Case assigned to officer
Jan 31 = 1140 file transferred back to the INS from consulate
Feb 8 = 485 approved !
Waiting for courtesy copy of 485 approval
