Did you hear about interim law that allow you to file concurrently? saves some time. But at least you got 140! That great!

Is it advisable to file by oneself

Now that my I140 got cleared in EB2 NIW category. which was applied by my lawyer, is it possible to apply by self I485/AP/EAD..
Are there any disadvantages in doing so..
Thanks

I didn't find any disadvantages in filing both petitions myself, same wait:) we got out EAC approved and waiting for AP approval. Got our fingerprinting done. It's nerveracking process whichever way you do it. Of course, you want to think that lawyer knows a little more but once you got 140 approval, you got a key to 485. Use your judgement, though.

Thanks citrusfrost
Would compile all the neccessary papers and do the filing ourselves.
Just need to know if medical has to be submitted along with I485
in NY. And where to file them. Any good web site which will help for filing by oneself

immigration.gov is pretty good. Go to forms, I 485 and they have all the package required. We had to send our medical with ours, but we are in NJ. Get your medical stuff straight, if you have insurance, go to your primary doc early, get all your INS required shots and X ray if you didn't have one recently. Immigration docs are pricey and they want you to do it there.
Also, Be sure to check the fees the day you send your stuff. I was pretty bummed when my application came back because the fees changed for some reason within who weeks( they went down??? and then went up again when we filed, can you believe it?) That was the only reason.

Thanks citrusfr

Yes i do have insurance. What is the X-ray for and is my doctor eligible to complete my shots and x-ray work for the medical form I693..
As i saw the Doctors are pricey and don't know if the insurance will cover them.

It's a chest X-ray. Insurance will cover your shots and x-ray with your primary doctor. However you primary doctor ( unless he is certified by INS which I doubt) can not fill out your form, you have to go to INS certified doc to fill out your Medical form. They will fill it our, do the exam which is formality and seal it ( will give you a copy). I know that visit is expensive, you can not avoid that expense but you can save by going to your primary doctor for shots and x-ray and then bringing records to the INS doctor. First call immigration doctor or go there and ask them exactly what you will be needing, what type of records. They were picking on me because I only had print outs of my primary doc's conlusions of the blood tests. INS doc said that he needs original test results and not the conclusions.
Even if you got your shots long time ago, you are not necessarily immune to things, so I had to do all the shots. But you can choose just to do them all or first check immunity, it takes a little longer but why get unnessary shots. I think if you will need chicken pox you will have to go twice anyway.

Medical

You could go to your county health center and get the shots and X-ray taken free (yes no cost at all).... but the doc check up got to be in a INS certified doc.
Hope this will help yu to get at least the X-Rays done free..

Thank you everyone

I appreciate the input I recieved from all of you. I would keep everyone posted how the filing goes.
Thank you once again.
