I-140 approval, what does it mean

Lets say that my PERM gets approved in a few months and so does my 140.

Would that mean that I can change jobs and my GC process and my original priority date will still apply for my 485 processing?

Yes, provided the company for which you have the first 140 approval does not withdraw the 140, in which case your priority date is lost.

So?

So whats the point of getting the PD if you have to file the PERM and 140 again? Even after it was approved once before.

You sure about having to refile the PERM and 140 after changing jobs?

Summary then on 140 approvals

Thanks for your replies, please confirm whether what I say below is correct.

Say I file my PERM in Jan 2006, say its approved in April 2006, say I file 140 in June 2006 and that gets approved in Aug 2006.

If I plan to change jobs after 140 approval say in Sept 2006, I will have to file for new PERM and 140 but my PD will remain Jan 2006. Also, now my H1B extensions will be in 3-yr bursts because of AC21.

Caveats:
1. My first company A does not withdraw the 140
2. I will still be in H1B until 485 gets approved
