I-130 Processing Time

I have been a US Citizen for over 10 years. I have filed the (I-130) for my bother. Here are my questions:

1. In general, what's the processing time (I-130 petition), from the moment I filed till the application is approved?
2. Upon submission of the (I-130), any ideas of the factors influencing the processing time and visa approval?

I will kindly appreciate your input, given your previous experience on the matter

Many thanks to you all.

It is not so much the time to process the I130 you need to worry about, but when the priority date becomes current. A visa cannot be issued before then. F4 is the longest wait of all (it is subject to an annual quota of 65000 visas per year (this includes the dependent family members) and there is a long queue, around 2m people. Currently, the current priority date allowing visas to be issued from May 2025 is for petitions filed by 1 January 2008 (or earlier if you are from India, Mexico or Philippines), implying a wait of around 17 years. This wait time has been growing slowly longer over time as the queue gets larger. Unfortunately there is no way to speed this up or jump the queue, it’s just a waiting game. You can track this in Table A of the visa bulletin https://travel.state.gov/content/tr...bulletin/2025/visa-bulletin-for-may-2025.html

One thing to add, they do not give high priority to fast processing of i130 because it takes so long for the priority date to be available, and nothing can be done to move the case forward until there is clearer sight of that date. I would highlight that if your sibling has any dependent children at risk of aging out, it is actually in their favor for USCIS to take longer to process the i130, because the processing time gets subtracted from the real age to get a “CSPA” age for visa issuance purposes.

when did you submit the i130?

Hi! I filed an I-130 for my sibling too, so I can share a bit from my experience.

  1. The processing time can vary a lot, but for siblings of U.S. citizens, it usually takes 10–15 years, depending on the applicant’s country of origin and visa bulletin movement.
  2. Factors that affect the timeline include USCIS workload, background checks, your sibling’s country, and whether all documents were correct at submission. Keeping your info updated and responding quickly to any USCIS requests can help.

Hope this helps — you're definitely not alone in this process!

Really? You just posted in another thread that you recently traveled on an RTD. Fake account, much?
