I 130 for wife

I am green card holder. I applied I 130 in august 2010 for my wife who is in india right now. I received the reciept notice which is showing 29th august as priority date. someboby was telling me that the united state is speeding up the priority dates so my wife will be in united state in a year like in august 2011....so should i assume my wife will be with me soon? i really need help in this as we both want to live together soon.

They have moved through the backlog a lot, but that speedup is just in recent months and it may go back to the usual 4-5 year time frame if this speedup is not sustained. October's visa bulletin (likely to be published this week) will give a better indicator of whether it is a sustainable trend, as it marks the beginning of a new fiscal year.
