I’m a DV-2022 selectee (with some complex variables)

Hello! My application for the DV-2022 lottery program was selected for further processing. I applied from France. My partner filed separately because we are not legally married (we have a PACS — aka we are common law partners). His application was not selected. We intend to get married so that I may add him onto my DS-260 application.

I’m a little concerned about making the right decisions here, especially based on meeting deadlines and my case number.

My case number is 2022AS000002XX (in the 200’s???). Is this a really low number and therefore I should submit the DS-260 as quickly as possible?

On the selectee website they say I should submit the DS-260 “as soon as possible” without giving a specific deadline date. Our marriage won’t happen before a month and then we need another few weeks to get the marriage certificate.

What exactly should I make of all this? Tonight my partner suggested that I might want to apply for the DS-260 on my own and add him later, but that sounds like an absolutely terrible choice given the stringency and strictness of the US immigration procedure.

Thanks for any advice or help because I am honestly scatterbrained about it all tonight.

What is your birth country? (You say you applied from France but you have an Asian case number.)

No problem waiting to submit the DS till you are married, and in my opinion this is the preferred route. A couple more months to submit won’t jeopardize your chances of getting a visa.

that makes sense. I was born in the UAE. Thanks for clearing that up, as well as for the advice, kind of needed it...!

You may miss the earliest possible date for an interview by waiting to submit the DS, but that’s not an issue with your low number, and way less of a hassle than potentially getting assigned an interview while you are still listed as single with the DS260.
