Hi,
I was wondering if anybody knows how much at least does american citizen(my husband) needs to make in a year, so we won't need to get a sponsor??? I heard that immigration mainly looks at the last year's income...or do all 3 tax years are the same importance?
Thank you,
Rasa

I'm positive that I've heard they only want the last years tax returns ...
but you should crosscheck that. Research the Board and the USCIS website

First go here-> http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-864P.htm To determine the minimum income requirement needed to complete Form I-864, Affidavit of Support

Having at Interview past 3 years IRS federal tax returns, although NOT required to be submitted with I-864 [ Does Help to establish & show HISTORY of earnings and earning potential, as well as establish employment history. So in the case that in the current year Sponsor had gap in employment say due to uncontrolled circumstances ( layoff) the past tax returns would establish employment history. I would also suggest bringing a letter verifying employement
as well as a Statement of Your bank account from your Financial institution.

These although NOT required also Support the ability of Sponsor to financially support their spouse.

My wife didn't work much last 2 years since she was in grad school and her income was very low. I asked the USCIS office when I wento to chat and was told as long as she qualifies now, it's all good, just have proof of her income.
