What happened to the asylee cap provision. I have the feeling that it got lost somewhere on its way to Senate.

After all, this is what most of us are praying for.

What's opinion?

The cap removal provision was passed by the House as part of the Real ID Act of 2005, which in turn was attached to a military appropriations bill. When the Senate voted on the appropriate bill they did not include the Read ID Act. Both the House and the Senate are now appointing negotiators who will iron out the differences on the appropriations bill. They need to pass that bill as soon as possible because we need to fund military operations abroad. Based on press reports of the past few days, it looks probable that the final version of the bill will contain the Read ID Act passed by the House (the removal cap is in there). Also the White House has stated a number of times that it wants the asylum cap removal concurrently with the provisions intended to combat asylum fraud.

according to the senate's one of related bills(HR418) of appropriations supplemental HR1268, the bill of summary shows that removes the numerical limit on the number of aliens granted asylum who may become lawful permanent residents in any fiscal year (currently set at 10,000).

"the cap lift" is there.

http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:HR00418:@@@L&summ2=m&

a conferece consisted of the house and senate members on 4/26/05 was appointed to resolve the difference . later, maybe we can find the final result.

I can NOT find any "cap lift" at HR1268.
There are 4 versions of HR1268.
I only find it at the third version. It located at Division B: REAL ID Act of 2005 - REAL ID Act of 2005 - Title I: Amendments to Federal Laws to Protect Against Terrorist Entry (sec.101)
But at the last version, ((4. Reported to Senate, amended (4/6/2005))). I can not find anything talk about that cap lift!!!!

Please show me!!!

According to Senate website, the HR418 is seperated from HR1268.
