How to verify voter registration

Hi,

Thanks for a great forum. I have read about the voter's registration nightmare and I am trying to find out how to verify if someone is actually registered? I just wanted to make sure I answer my N-400 application correctly and if I am indeed registered I want to take action to correct it before filing for my citizenship.

I have moved around about 5 states ever since I was here as an F1 student in 1995, and I have obtained driver's license in each of the state. How do I verify to make sure I wasn't registered by accident by the DMV? Do I go to each state's election website to check or is there anything else I should check before submitting my N-400.

Thanks for your help

They're almost surely not going to be proactively checking the voters list in 5 states going back 16 years. Just check with your current state. Whenever you obtain a license in a new state by handing in the license from the prior state, the new state is supposed to notify the prior state, after which the prior state should cease to consider you a resident and thereby remove you from the voters list, jury duty list and whatever other lists are based on state residence.

If you're not registered in your current state, answer NO to the relevant question on the N-400, and then deal with the issue later if it somehow turns out that you were registered in a prior state.

I found this: "w w w . longdistancevoter . org/verify_voter_registration"
(Please delete all the spaces in this address, I cannot post links yet so I had to find a workaround.)

I did the same thing after I read a thread here that someone was denied citizenship because the person was registered as a voter by mistake.

You do the right thing. Then you have one thing less to worry about at the interview.

Thanks Jackolantern and Makaba. I checked via the link you provided on all 5 states, and they all came back voters registration not found...Thanks again, it definitely gives me a peace of mind knowing I am not registered anywhere, phew...

Information provided at that site is not accurate - I am registered to vote and it showed up as no record found.
