How to obtain refugee status?

I understand to be a refugee you have to obtain such a status from the USA embassy in the country of persecution,, any body know the exact procedure?

Im From Mexico And I Wanna Know If I Can Get A Asylum In Us And What Things Do I Need To Do .. For Example I Came Here And I Become Mormon Now.. My Family Is Catholic ... Is That A Reason To Say That I Want The Asylum Or Please Tell Me What Do I Need To Do.. To Get One....

I am not sure why you are so reluctant to read the link that Cl_Asylee pasted for you. It has answers to ALL your questions eg eligiblility. It even provides you with a list of Free legal services for future and current asylees.

BTW having lived here illegally for more that a year I doubt that you are eligible unless you can prove extraordinary circumstances that made you not to apply before the one year statute of limitation or if dramatic changes have taken place NOW.
