How to get hold of my approved petition

When I look at my H1 petition number on USCIS website it shows that it has been approved last april.
However I had been on L1 since then with the same company. The HR guys say to ignore that petition.
However I would like to know if I still have a approved H1 petition and till what time it is valid. I called the service center but they told me that they will mail the petition only to the company and not to me.
Anyone had any luck in getting the petition or its copy directly mailed to them. What is the procedure.

Usually one copy goes to the employer and one to the applicant/lawyer. Now did you apply for COS too. If yes you should have received the I-94 and the approval notice.
There is a form I-824 that if you file you will get a duplicate approval notice. Takes couple of months and I am not sure if it will help your status now.
 
I dont think I applied for COS. I came here on L1 while my H1(extension) was still in process.
Does the H1 status get invalid if I am on L1. Can I switch to H1 if the H1 petition is in the approved state.
