Please excuse my ignorance but I figured this forum might be a valuable information source (the FAQ is not that helpful):
A friend of mine trained in ophthalmology in the US. His time on the H1 is running low and he is looking for ways to get a GC.
1. Who are the IGA's that would commonly give you a letter? Would a state dept. of health be a good source.
2. What is the timeframe from NIW petition to GC (assuming that his country is 'current'.
3. How does it actually work. I believe there is a five year commitment required. Do you need to maintain legal status through some nonimmigrant visa during that time ?
4. Do you get a temporary GC, similar to the stamp that you get after your spouse petitions for you ? What if he wants to travel ? does he need advance parole ?
Any information is appreciated.
