How to get a SSN

Hi All and best wishes for 2008, also good luck for those with upcomming interviews....

First question if anyone can help.

How do I get a SSN? Do I just visit the SS office show my docs and apply for it?

Also can i register my SSN application with lets say the SS office in miami, registering an out of state home address MD for example (thinking about doing my first entry to the us only for a couple of days), then come back to my country to finish my unfinish bussiness, while my SSN applications gets processed then make my permanent entry in the state I choose lets say MD, will the SS office let me apply with an address that is out of state at the SSN first registration timeframe.

Pls any help I really have a crunch schedule in my country before I leave and need to take smart decissions.

Fiestoca, this is a liittle bit out of topic. How long it took for you from successfull interview until you got your visa stamped with the Immigrant Visa?

it took exactly 24 hours after the interview to get the DVI visa
