How to find out if name check is started or not

Hello experts:

The new rule says that name check if initiated and pending for 6 mo., it will initiate approval process. How to know if name check is initiated?
 
I don't think the USCIS knows. You could try calling to ask though. I have a feeling they'll just say "All we know is the date we sent your name to the FBI, we don't know when they initiated the search".

My suggestion: I found out by writing my Congressman. He submitted an inquiry to the FBI, and the FBI responded with a letter that said "we received the name on XX/XX/XXXX, and are still researching".

Chances are, the FBI received your name shortly after your 485 was filed.

You could also try writing the FBI and ask. The Link. Look at option #11. You may receive a response, but it will probably take a while. That's why my first suggestion is to write your Congressman, the chances are good you'll get a faster response.
