How to correct the record?

Hi,

My parents entered the country on visitor visa and while they were here an application for adjustment of status had been filed. When their Green Cards were being processed, they had to leave the country, so they applied for the Advance Parole. Once the applications were accepted, they left the country before they received the AP. When they left, the stay was over the I-94 period.

They returned after a few months, but still their applications were pending with INS. After some time, they received a letter from INS that their AP applications had been canceled as they had entered the US.

They had no issue getting the GC, but another problem started after that.

Now, every time they enter US, their record show overstay on their visitor visa. So, every time they are sent for the secondary inspection. The officer looks at the record during the secondary inspection and immediately stamps the passport. Due to the time required for the secondary inspection, they have missed the connecting flights many times.

Is there any way to correct the INS record? Whom should we approach to correct the record?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

See a lawyer. But they broke the rules by leaving the country after I-485 without having advance parole or a valid H or L visa, so getting citizenship might be the only way to stop this problem.
