I googled and found a website where they ask you to enter your name and last 4 digits of social, but it doesnt find me as a registered voter. Any other experiences?

It takes some time. and you will receive a voter's registration card by mail.
The only advise I may have for you is to contact the Secretary of the State in your state. They will give you all the information regarding how to check whether you are a registered voter or not. Typically, the voter registration is done by individual counties, and each county has a Registrar of Voters. If you call them directly, you will be able to verify your registration status.
