How to check a lawyer's credentials

Is there a site where we can check a lawyer's credentials and see if they have any complaints or problems on their record, like the BBB is for businesses?

Find out which state the lawyer is registered. Get lawyers bar license number and check with the bar association of that state.

That will tell if the lawyers license is currently valid or not. What about his competency ? What is his win/loss ratio? How many complaints are lodged against him? How many cases mandamus has he handled ? etc etc... Any ideas?

I heard that this site is a rating site used by lawyers to anonymously rate each other based on their previous experience with each other. Usually the most prestigious firms are listed. Many lawyers' websites such as visalaw.com advise to use this one when looking for lawyers.

martindale does not allow to review any disciplinary action taken against the lawyer.
