How stupid is that!

NSC approved my EAD/AP extension and the validity of the new documents is NOT from the expiry of my last EAD/AP (December 2004)! It is valid from today for one year. So now I wasted 2 months out of 12 months because I applied sooner?!? I applied sooner because in USCIS land nothing happens on time. Now its like a vicious cycle... feeding on itself. Apply sooner or later: you are screwed either way. I know, there is no point in cribbing - but I wanted to vent out!

I applied for my EAD renewal in January 04 as my current EAD expires in June 04 at that time and it was approved in March 04 with renewed EAD valid from June 04 through June 05. My AP renewal was done at the same time and renewal was from March 04 to March 05 (I lost 3 months on AP renewal).
FYI both my EAD and AP were to expire in June 04. To be on safe side I applied for renewal 6 months before expiration date.

normal, but as you said the policy is stupid and CIS is creating so much unnecessary paperworks for us and for themselves. I applied 3 EADs and 3 APs and lost totally 6 months.

I have 2 answers to your question:

1. How Stupid? VERY!!!!!!

2. Maybe this is the timing provided because USCIS does think you are going to need an EAD one year from today (which is what I believe too, BTW)?
I agree, there is a money loss issue here, having 25% of your $120 spent on nothing, but if I compare the $30 to what I have already paid for my GC, it's pennies, and I'd rather pay it assuming it's the last EAD I will ever apply for, and to make sure I am covered.

So cheer up my friend, and best wishes,

Isn't there a "start" date from when you want your EAD to be valid? I thought there was such date on mine. And since mine was delayed they actually moved the "start" date with about a month later (good for me at that time).

Software bug :)
It works this way - They always set the Effective start date = Approved Date
So they need to fix this bug as
If first time ead then
approval date
else
ead effective end date + 1
End If

Guys dont kill me , Iam just joking!

Same here. I had applied for spouse EAD renewal on July 24th. Got the approval on Sept 22nd, and received actual card on Sept 27th. The validity is from approval date and not from the time old EAD expires (Nov 28). So I too lost 2 months.

same boat

I have the same condition.
USCIS exits in some parallel world where all the logic and physcical rules fail. we can make no sense out of anything.

I am also in the same boat. My wifes EAD was approved with continuous dates and in my case I lost 4 months.
I send the Xerox of my two EAD's and my wifes two EAD's to the attention of Director:
Terry E. Way. I plan to send the xerox to other responsible people.
