Hi,

Could somebody with experience let me know how long it took to receive the "No Record" response after filing FOIPA request? I want to get this response first before contacting the senator/congressman, and possibly file a lawsuit. Thanks.

Do you fax the FOIPA request or mail the letter?

I faxed FBI two weeks ago but get the letter from post mail that they won't accept fax request so I mailed out the letter last week but still waiting.

happyheart,

I'll file FOIA form with FBI, but I have no idea about the following items on the FOIA form.

On the FOIA Form,

Q 1: Enter maximum amount you are willing to pay: $
Q 2: Explanation for a request for a waiver of fees:

Do I/we need to pay some amount of dollar, how much?
How to request for a waiver?
If we do not need any fees, how to fill out these two blanks?
I have never heard of people paying fees on filing FOIA form.

Thanks.

It took an year for me to get the docs for FOIA

Folks,

It took one full year for me to get the documents after Filing FOIA.

FOIA Documents request sent - 04/29/05
FOIA Documents RECEIVED - 04/21/2006

I'm not sure how someone can get in 15 days!!! when I was tracking there were 70000 people waiting to get the documents and the center was processing up to 3000 cases per month.

Note: I'm not sure how true this is but if you request FOIA documents your case gets transferred to a different location and stays there even after the documents are sent. This unknown center acts as a pilot processing and processes the GCs just like regular one! (heard from the rep. when I spoke on phone) and may people have written to my earlier posting that they saw that in some cases the processing was fast and in some cases the spouse case got approved an the primary applicant case was not moving.

Hope this helps!

I just got mine back with "No record found". So basically, after 3 weeks.

You have to send with mail. They don't accept fax since it requires original signature. Also, make sure your signature is legible, my wife's was returned presumably because they couldn't read her signature.

Not sure whether it makes any difference, but the request I filed, or the form I used, is actually a privacy act request, instead of FOIA.
