How soon one could get the plastic card after passport-stamping?

I got my passport stamped after I-485 approval two weeks ago at the INS-office in San Jose. Now, I am required to change my address on account of job-relocation. I would like to know how long does it take for the issue of the plastic card. Also, I would like to know as to how I would be able to receive the plastic card in a new address. The first thing that comes to my mind is to inform the post-office about the new address. But, I would prefer to inform the INS so that they can correct the records with the new address. Has anybody changed his or her address after passport-stamping but before the issue of the plastic card.

  Please reply if you would know the details.
