Hi,
I posted the same question a little bit ealier if i understand your question clearly. and the reply I got from gurus is - it doesn't matter. the renewed one will start when your current one expires. and it takes about 4-5 months.

They way INS is approving ... better as soon as ur current EAD approved apply for next renewal .. it will surely approve in 12 months...
then INS will understand about their working style ... Hope this way they realize their how much they lazy they are.
