how soon can you know ur interview date?

Hi Guys,
I tried to book air tickets to india and found that Jnauary is all booked due to chines new year.
I ahve a quick question.
My packet 3 was entered in US Consulate mumbai around 5th dec. I requested them for Jan interview but they couldn't and I am contemplating an early FEB interview. My question is.
How soon can i know my interview date?
Can I assume that i can get around a 5th FEB date since my packet reached them by 5th dec?
This will help me in booking my tickets as i want to spend some time in india before my GC interview .
Can someone tell me their experiences like when their case got registered and when they GOT TO KNOW their interview dates?I called up the consulate eysterday but they were not of any help.

{Generally the earliest you can know the exact date is
between 7 to 13 of Jan, by a response from the consulate
to your email OR when they publish the dates on the website
around 12th to 15th of Jan. }

{Though we cannot be certain about this, the E2s start
from around 10th of the month and the E3s from around
18th or so. But there are always exceptions to this.

As you are assuming it may not be on 5th of Feb because
the file reached them on 5th Dec. }

This will help me in booking my tickets as i want to spend some time in india before my GC interview .

{This is always trickey and all of us have gone through this.
Going by the history of how these are scheduled, the best
you can do at this point is book outgoing journey in the
1st week of Feb and return end of Feb.}

{It would be good if someone from Mumbai consulate can
quote the specific dates. But agian how much help they
would be, in plotting your own course of action is doubtful}
