How soon can one apply for EAD?

Is\'nt there a rule that EAD can be applied for only if your I-485 is pending for 180 days. Is it possible to apply for EAD before that?

Here is a scenario. If my I-140 is approved, I-485 is just applied and I get laid off, can I get an EAD before getting laid off, eventhough it is not yet 180 days pending?

The objective is to use the EAD to get a job even if I am laid off and still be in status while looking out for a new job.

You can send in your EAD application form together with you I485. Some local INS do allow walk-in cases. All you need is your I485 receipt. You don\'t have to wait till 180 days to apply EAD!

You can get your EAD now

You can apply for EAD and get it on a faster track. it is not a long wait.
Talk to any attorney or any IIO and tell them that you want it fast (don\'t tell them the reason as being laid of) tell them probably that you want it to be on safe side or some other reason.
