How soon can I start working legally after I marry a US citizen?

Do I have to wait until I got my green card before I start working?
I don't know if there is some kind of temperary permit to show that I can work legally. If so how to get it? What documents do I need?

Can somebody give a tip here? Thanks a lot!

Once you got married, your USC spouse files I-130, you file I-485 to become Legal Permanent Resident. Since you want to work you're supposed to file I-765, which gives you, once approved, a temporary working permit called Employment Autorization Document (EAD) which is a plastic card with your picture and your fingerprint. Once you receive the Greencard, you won't need that anymore, though.
