How soon can I apply for citizenship?

After going though consular processing in Canada, I got my GC stamped on my passport on 1 April 2004. I finally moved to the US on 1 July 2004. Since 1 July 2004 I have been outside the US for just about 30 days on vacation.

My question to the forum is: How soon can I apply for US citizenship? Can I start the process before I actually complete 5 years of continuous residence in the US?

I would appreciate it very much if someone could give some feedback.

If you were admitted into US as a permanent resident on July 1st 2004 the earliest you can apply is after April 1st, 2009. The date of immigrant visa issuance has nothing to do with it.

Thanks for your replies!

I was actually admitted to the US as a permanent resident on 1 April 2004. That date is stamped on my passport, and appears on my plastic GC. After getting the passport stamped at the border, I spent a couple of days in the US looking for apartments, I went back to Canada to wrap up my affairs, and finally moved to the US on 1 July 2004.

So I should be eligible to apply 90 days prior to 1-April 2009, isnt it?

Thanks

Yes it is the date mentioned on your GC that you go with.
