It is not a fummy question.

The alien could not have a SSN and gave birth to a child
in the USA and applied for baby\'s SSN and left the
parents\' SSN blank on the SS-5 form. Later the alien
got the GC, then a SSN. How to tell the SSA to update
the baby\'s record with the new parent\'s info? I don\'t
think the SSA can automatically link the baby\'s file
and the mother\'s.

I don\'t think it is necessary but prefably want to
straight all records.

This also applies to the baby\'s birth record with
the state health department. When filing for the
baby\';s birth certifcatem the mother\'s SSN
was also left blank.

Fill out SS-5 for your child. I think father & mother\'s SSN can be specified there.
Note I think this is not required.

yep fill another SS-5 with parents SSNs. Tell them why you are doing this .. they shd not object to it. You can fill SS-5 as many times if you have reasons like name change, or amending any mistakes.

It is not so efficient to go to SSA every time there is
a trivial change. Better to accumulate enouch changes
and do them together. I\'ll do that for the child when
I need to update mine. Anyway we\'ll have to get a new SSN
card again when we becoem citizens.

It took me about 2mins at the window + 6-7 mins to fill-up the form and wait. I would say that\'s really EFFICIENT !!
