How often is too often to call and speak to INS officer?

Is calling once a month to check on the status too frequent- especially if your case I-485 is overdue by 3 months. I know they record the timestamp when you place a call and speak to a rep. I do not want to annoy the officer either.

Any guidelines?

I have never called an IIO. One of my friends used to call once a month even after his case was overdue. You know how they handled 8/99 cases. He was one of those who filed 9/99.
 
If Over due...Once a month is fine

When you call they would also be more helpful,if it is overdue and give some kind of status.If they are not happy they would definitely let you know.In no way it will affect your case though !! That is what I think.
