How often does USCIS receive cleared name checks?

Hi all,

Out of curiousity. How often does USCIS receive names of those who have had their name checks cleared?

Is it on a daily basis or do they come in batches on a specific timeline?

Any insight would much appreciated.

Thats a very good question. Thinks it depends on the DO. I read on this forum that some DOs check every week and some every month

There is a memo which I will attach, once I find it on the name check process. However, the memo states that about 90% of name checks are cleared within 48 hours of receipt from USCIS by the FBI. So, FBI send them within 48 hours to USCIS offices. All of this is done electronically....

Here is a deal with name check: couple of FBI databases are used to check names of immigrants. For example, your name is Tobasco Sauce Pepper... FBI agent will cross check your name using various combination of your name, Pepper Sauce Tobasco, and many other combinations in all of their databases, if you have never been a subject of FBI investigation, your name will cleared immediately and placedd on a batch which will be send back to USCIS within 48 hrs. However, should your name appear in the FBI datase, then your name will be held for a long time, because the FBI will have to obtain the physical record to see why your were subject of investigation or NOT. ;)

The problem, people who send these names to FBI have lost confidence in the FBI's ability to return these names in a short period of time. So, they act as if the name check will take 4 months, even though candidates for immigration benefit names have been cleared by the FBI. So, the name check saga continues..... Lastly, if you have a middle eastern or arab name, whether we like this or not, you are generally put under tight scrutiny because of the sentiment in the country about people from these countries. So, it is unfortunate, but FBI is put under pressure to ensure all people who seek immigration benefits don't pose security risks to US .... :o

From my experience

This is what I gathered from my experience, I saw the same in the Name Check main thread of Rahul. FBI sends it to USCIS Washington headquarters. I believe there is some report that is printed from that and there might be a group that go thru the information and updates the case from name check pending to name check completed. The DAO does not do it. I went for infopass every other day and that is how i learnt that the DO does have nothing to do with the name check process. Once they saw that name chk was cleared (mine showed no records) the IO at the infopass alerted the DAO who interviewed me with a print out. If you dont go for the infopass then it depends on the DO practice (1 week,2 week or once a month). I would suggest strongly to those who are stuck in Name check and if you know it has been cleared call the 800 number customer service at the least and get the status and once it is cleared get an infopass and just ask for status, dont say anything else. The IO when they see it is cleared they will help you.

So it seems that an infopass would be the only way to find out, or call the 800 number (which I am not very fond of).

I am getting an infopass end of this month just for my peace of mind and for the sake of managing my life, travel etc. I will ask the IO then how often the Chicago DO receives cleared name checks.

Once a week we update name check...

USCIS Officer says "Once a week we update name check pending files"

Don't quote me on this but this is what I heard at my last INFOPASS.

This office only does the fingerprints for immigration. They are completed and returned to immigration within 24 hours of receipt. The name check, or background check, is done out of Washington , DC . They no longer speak with the public; however, your immigration case officer does receive status updates on your case.

Thanks,

jls

I just got this e-mail taday from the FBI liaison@leo.gov. I hope it helps. When I sent the e-mail I knew the answer but I want to give it a try anyway. I am a little surprise because they reply back, even when they didn't said anything new I am greteful that they took the time to read and reply to my e-mail.
