How much time it takes to clear Finger Prints

There is no way to know, FBI sends the results very fast but there is no way to know how uscis works with this info.

Not correct. Confirmation of finger print status will take no more than 10 minutes. Call FBI finger print line at this number:

1 304-625-2000, option 3

The person will ask for your A# and tell you when the FP results were sent back. I think you are confusing with FBI Name Check results. Unfortunately, FBI NNC department under Cannon has stopped having any contact with the public (typical government attitude!). The number they used to respond was:

FBI Name Check Status (Main Line) (202) 324-3625

If you call now they will just tell you that we don't give the status of name check and to contact the agency which sent the name check request.

This is the "million dollar" question! If we knew the answer to this question, then this forum wouldn't exist!

BRB is wrong, all FBI does when you call them is tell you that the results were sent . They don't tell if you pass/fail or if the prints were unacceptable.
Some people on the forum have had to redo the FP and the FBI never told them anything.

BRB2, how can we request FOIPA ? How long it will take to get the result ? Exactly what does that contain ?

Called FBI as per BRB2's posting

BRB2, I called FBI today at the number you mentioned. They told FP was sent back to USCIS on the same day it was done. What does that mean ? They don't provide any more info.

What are the steps (such as IBIS, Name Check etc.) of FP and approx. how long each takes ?

The below is a link to all the information about FOIPA. Do not fax it. Mail it by certified mail and you MUST notarize your signature or FBI will not act on the request. The below web page has a link to the form on the top right side of the page.

Regarding FP, FBI will only confirm if the results were sent back or not. During the days of ink finger printing there used to be errors for people who had very shallow finger prints, particularly those who had physically worked with bare hands, or elderly. Now with the electronic system very few if any prints are rejected. So one can assume that if the FBI has sent a result, they are in order.

The other security check that USCIS does is the IBIS security check which can access multiple data bases and is supposed to be very effective. Some times they use this multiple times including after the interview if the process has taken very long.
