Hi Gurus,
One more quick question...

How many months before the current EAD expires, can we file for extension??

Actually, there is a remote possiblity that I may lose or change my job in next few weeks. My EAD & AP are expiring in late August. I wanted to see if I can extend them right now (in April).

Also, when they extend the EAD, do they extend it for one year from the date they approve it or from the date last EAD expires????

for example::
My current EAD expires in 8/25/2006...Suppose I file for extension now & they approve it next month (5/5/2006)..will they extend it for one year from 8/25/2006 or from the date they approve it (5/5/2006 in above example).

PLEASE REPLY!!

Murthy says "One using an EAD should extend his/her EAD about 6 months before the expiration date to avoid a time lapse and to enable the continuation of work without interruption."

Also, the new start date will be the date of EAD approval (not the previous EAD expiry date).

File atleast 100 days before EAD expiry.. so that in case there is a delay of more than 90 days, you can get an interim EAD from USCIS local office.

I dont know how early you can file it.

Unfortunately, these * start the clock from the day of EAD approval (and not from the expiry of previous EAD). Usually you see approval within 2 months which means one month of money wasted. This is such a scam.

You can file as early as 6 months before (I think, if earlier than 6 months, you should indicate that this is 'replacement EAD', otherwise they may reject).
100 days or 4 months is recommended to avoid lapse.
Approval date depends on where is your case, some local offices have special rules like starting date of renewed EAD is next day after expiration of old one (I think, Texas and maybe Dallas local office), others like VSC and my local office (Baltimore) just put approval date and you may have overlap with old EAD.
