How long will I wait....

I married a USC and applied for GC in March 2005. I went for an interview in October 2005, but they didnt have my file and I received a letter from them later saying that they have lost some of my documents. After getting the lost documents to them again, I finally had another interview in May 2006. They had everything this time, but they then mentioned that someone had applied for a GC using my SSN and that they will have to do some checking to make sure it wasnt me who was trying to apply under a different name. I didnt have any problems with this since I had nothing to hide and was hoping to have an answer by now, but nothing has happened yet. It is now going for 90 days.....how long do I wait?

ANY ADVICE/INSIGHTS/SUPPORT WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

90 days should be enough. get an infopass and see what is going on. any idea when and where this other application took place? and where were you? this would be good to know just in case.

I went for the interviews in Philadelphia and I am living in PA. I will have to check again where the original application was sent....its was so long ago....I think it may have been Chicago...I wil check.

keep up the pressure on them

Unfortunately, because your case is unique, I would urge you to not sit back and wait on them. They are too busy to process “normal” applications to spend the extra time to ok your application.

So here’s what I think you should do:

1. Write to your senator and congressman. Write this letter on behalf of your USC spouse.[you don’t vote, so you don’t count!]

2. Call the 1800 # and file a case with them every month. What happens is, when you call the main line, they open a ticket and
Send it off to the District Office and somebody has to take ownership of that ticket and respond to it.

3. Keep doing infopass at least bio-monthly.

I know what I’m saying sounds a bit too much but believe me, last thing you want to do is set back and wish that uscis does its job as it should.

I’m not an attorney. Just doing my best to help.

Thanks for the help so far. I have my infopass appointment on Wednesday in Philly. This is the first time I will be going for this type of appointment. What can I expect? What should I take along with me? Also, would it help if I took a lawyer with me.
